Separated at Birth, Masterlist

fuzipenguin:

For new people just now finding this series, here are all the chapters of the Separated at Birth ‘verse, in which Sideswipe and Sunstreaker are twins who are… you guessed it! Separated at Birth! (actual title will happen at some point)

This is currently a tumblr exclusive. I will eventually flesh things out (yes, it will get even longer than the 14,500 words it’s sitting at), and post in AO3 and all the other places, but for now it’ll remain here. I’ve had a few people ask about AO3 due to legibility issues w/ apps and such – I’m happy to send anyone a Word document of the rough draft. Just send me an Ask w/ your email address.

Finally, I don’t normally do this, but I have a cut scene from chapter 7 – Sideswipe got *really* long winded before I had to slow him down. If anyone is interested, I’ll post it – just let me know!

All chapters are from Sunstreaker’s POV, unless otherwise noted.
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Chapter 3
Chapter 4
Chapter 5
Chapter 6
Chapter 7 – Sideswipe, explicitly NSFW
Chapter 8
Chapter 9
Chapter 10
Epilogue – Sideswipe, meeting Ratchet

Aka those ships you love that have under 50 fics on AO3, only around 20 pieces of art for them (and they’re almost all by you/one person), the ones that are popular in other continuities but there’s next to nothing for the universe you like them in, etc
I wanna see who else is in Rare Pair Hell with me

Bluestreak/Hound

…but you already knew I was gonna say that! 🙂

I read through all the responses and reblogs of this post and NO ONE said Hound/anyone. Poor Hound…

I love @Ladydragon76 Sweet Release series of Prowl / Jazz / Bluestreak

Eee! Thank you!  We need more of them too.  ❤

I’m always in rarepair hell. I’m trapped there with such pairings as Grimlock/Starscream, Grimlock/Soundwave, Hound/Ravage, Eject/Frenzy, Rumble/Bumblebee…

Smokescreen/Ratchet (G1) and Silverbolt/Trailbreaker

Ratchet/Wing (I know it’s a crack ship, but I still love it, and it’s super rare), Bluestreak/Red Alert, Megatron/Ratchet, Prowl/Red Alert, Jazz/Bluestreak, Skids/Nautica

Wheeljack/twins, Skyfire/twins, Vortex/Ratchet, Vortex/Starscream, Vortex/Twins

Oh, Mirage/Twins… always and forever. 7 works on Ao3, 2 are mine, 3 others are the same series. Also Prowl/Starscream, but there are a few more of those at 22.

Unexpected Benefit of Black Panther: my local pet shelters went from having something like 50-60 black cats between them to having NONE, becuase they’ve all been adopted out and named after the characters. “T’challa” is the most popular, but there are a fair number of “Okoye”s and “Shuri”s as well.

…and one very confused Elderly Humane Society Volunteer wondering why someone would name such a sweet cat “Killmonger”.

For everyone in the comments worried about the cats being abandoned after the ‘fad’ fades:

I live in Durango, CO and the shelters are SUPER small so they do thier best to make sure people are really ready to take a pet home for good.  In order to adopt, you have to:

  1. Fill out a questionaire about what facilities your home has and how you plan to take care of this aimal.  If the shelter sees something amiss (Trying to keep a nervous dog in a house full of children, not knowing jack about repitle husbandry, etc.) they won’t let you adopt that animal.
  2. Everyone is given a “Get Ready For pet!” Checklist of supplies, houseproofing, and medical procedeures that will be needed for an animal before you can adopt.  Seeing the full checklist and cost tends to weed out people who weren’t terribly serious about keeping an animal.
  3. All but one of the local shelters is no-kill, and the kill shelter doesn’t let people return animals to them, instead sending them off to one of the five no-kill places.

According to Mary who runs the cattery, these cats are mostly being adopted to people who were looking to adopt *A* cat in general, then see the black kitties and go “LIKE BLACK PANTHER” and take them home, so for once, black cats are being adopted first.

Also, cat adoptions are up in general, so that’s also great!

So before this post goes any more viral, I need to point out a serious factual error on my behalf.

My source for the original post is a friend that volunteers at the shelter, who, I learned earlier tonight, uses Voice-To-Text for chat.  The text I reccieved from her last week read as follows:

“At the staff meeting [REDACTED] says we’ve adopted out fifty or sixty black cats between other shelters since Black Panther opened.  Everyone loves them all of a sudden.

She finally saw the post and contacted me tonight to tell me that VTT garbled the message and what she actually said was Fifteen or Sixteen.   There are now MORE black cats up for adoption now that they’ve been fixed and vaccinated, but they were fresh out when she told me last week.

So while that’s not the wildly sucessful adoption rate I though had happened, the good news is that still 15 or 16 (She’ll check next time she’s in) more cats with homes, and that so far NONE of them have been returned!  Friend is fairly sure they won’t be, as the shelter overall has a low return rate from the above mentioned procedeures and the fact that, as mentioned above, most of these were people looking to adopt a cat in general, then picked out a black cat specifically becuase of Black Panther.

I apologise for the error in reporting and wish I’d known about the it sooner.  You know, before Buzzfeed and MSN decided to steal this post :/ .  Thank you for your understanding, and if you could spread the corrected version around I’d appreciate it.

Also, black cats aren’t going to be a behavioral shock the way some of the dog fads are (see: 101 Dalmatians) so I’m hopeful there will not be a mass abandonment. And they’re not a single pure breed, so lessened concern of irresponsible purebreeding having serious negative consequences for them (see: Lady and the Tramp).

Did I ever tell the story on here of how we accidentally ended up staying at a gay resort for my grandmother’s funeral.

*drops into cross-legged position in front of systlin, ready for the story*

So. This is about my Awesome Grandma, who I still miss deeply. The Awful Grandma is still alive, kept upright by sheer spite and hatred of everything.

But my Awesome Grandma passed away a couple years ago, at the ripe old age of 89, peacefully and in her sleep. I was devastated. The whole family was. She was an amazing woman.

So, I’m a mess. I get bereavement leave from work for the funeral, and the condolences of my boss and coworkers, and we start trying to figure out logistics.

Dad was her estate’s executor, and he was already up in Wisconsin staying at her house because we’d known it was coming (she’d been ill for some time). Now, Grandma and Grandpa’s house was and is quite small. So, Dad was staying there, Mom was staying there, and my aunt and her husband were staying there, and the house was full up.

My other aunt and her husband who lived nearby opened their house to the family, but their house wasn’t huge either and so of course their children who came home got priority.

Long story short, we needed to find a hotel. And I’m a wreck, who can barely pack a suitcase in between bouts of sobbing, so my hubby stepped up.

“I’ve got it,” He says. “Don’t worry, I’ve got everything.” He’s good at finding hotel deals and stuff, so this is great.

Grandma lived in Baraboo, WI. This is a short drive from the Wisconsin Dells, a popular tourist trap that has a ton of hotels. Grandma died in October, which was off season for the Dells, so there were plenty of good deals. Kev booked a room at a place called Rainbow Valley Resort, which had excellent ratings on Expedia and was inexpensive. We didn’t think twice about this, because every hotel in the Dells has a name like Whispering Pines or Mountain Valley or Pleasant View or Springbrook or whatever.

Anyway, we show up, and find it fine, and pull up to the office which is also the bar.

The bar is named Captain Dix.

This still doesn’t click in my brain, which is running on adrenaline and espresso at this point. And my husband is in Get Shit Done mode, which means he’s wholly focused on getting checked in and then to Grandma’s house to meet up with my family and stuff.

So we walk in, and finally a little pilot light goes on in my brain. Because the walls are PAPERED in Brokeback Mountain posters, Pride flags, and posters of extremely hot shirtless men.

“Oh.” I go. “OH.”

The dude at the desk is cheerfully checking us in, and he is Obviously Gay. In that, he’s wearing a T shirt, literally, that says “Gay” and has a rainbow on it.

There’s a sign on the wall listing the events that they hosted over the summer. I’ve still got a pic, I’ll find and attach it in a minute.

My worry at this point is mostly “Oh man I don’t want these dudes to feel like we’re intruding” but we’re like the only people there because, again, off season.

So we get checked in and get to our room, and I turn to husband.

“Hon.” I said, “We’re at the gay resort.”

“What?” Says Kev.

“Hon,” I said, and then pointed out everything I just listed above, and oh yeah they also had a clothing optional area by the pool.

“Oh.” He says. “Oops.”

But, I mean, the rooms were lovely and comfortable and spotless, and too late now.

Anyway Grandma’s funeral was that afternoon. And by the time we got back, I was a cried out mess, and I wanted a fucking drink. So, we went to the bar.

The owner was the barkeep. We get to the bar, and he smiles at us. “Hey folks, I’m Gary. What can I get you?” He asks.

“Whiskey.” I say.

“Sure, what kind?”

“Brown.” I’ve been awake for 37 hours at this point, and words are hard.

An eyebrow climbs, but he just grabs a Jameson bottle. “Sure hon, anything with it?”

“More whiskey.”

The second eyebrow climbs.

“We just got back from her grandmother’s funeral.” My husband has better people skills than me.

OH.”  Gary upends the bottle at this, and pours an extra couple fingers into my glass, thereby making him my best friend in the world.

Anyway, my husband the People Person strikes up a conversation with Brad as I drink. Turns out Brad and his husband own the place, they don’t mind us there a bit since it’s a slow time of the year for them, and by the end of the night he and my husband are best friends and Kev, the professional locksmith, is repairing a minor problem with their door for them and chatting about cooking.

Anyway, Rainbow Valley sadly could not survive as a gay establishment, and was re branded for anyone. But they still have great food and the owners are still very homosexual, and are great people.

Brad was Gary’s partner, incidentally, forgot to specify.

God I live 15 minutes away and I love them. This is why you should visit Wisco.

“Nods”

If you’re in the Dells, give them your business. They’re wonderful people, and the food is great. Gary cooks, and his BBQ ribs are phenomenal.

They are now called Silver Valley Resort and Rubb’s Steakhouse, if you ever want to hit them up.

@cheerios-and-pocket-lint next time we’re in the Dells?

I have $24 to last me til Friday, what should I buy with it?

a pallet of ramen noodles

I hate ramen noodles tho

hmmmmm

bees?

Are you suggesting that I eat bees for a week

This is roughly what I make sure I have in my kitchen all the time along with rough estimates of local prices (MN). I buy a lot of things when they’re on sale and stockpile them.

instant oatmeal packets with fruit in them – $3 probably and this can be breakfast all week and maybe even a lunch or dinner too since you usually get 10 packets

bag of rice – $2-3 depending on size. 1 cup dry rice makes enough for about two meals depending on what you add in. if you get cheap rice, rinse it before cooking

canned beans – usually under $1 per can – mix the can with your rice and you have a meal. chili-spiced beans will make bean tacos. Rinse non-spiced beans before adding to anything.

Tortilla – usually around $3 but you get like 8-10 of them. Tacos, wraps, and quesadillas are all fair game here

lettuce – $2 max around here, either a head of something or bagged precut depending on preference, use as a salad or on tacos

protein other than beans of some sort – probably $5-7 for meat, $2-3 for eggs. sometimes I can get bags of frozen chicken breasts in this price range and each is usually 2 meals if I add in a bunch of veggies. fry/scramble eggs and add to any of the options.

your favorite stir fry sauce – $3ish

vegetables – $5ish. literally anything that you can 1. fry in a pan and 2. you’ll eat. fresh carrots are usually pretty cheap. get frozen if it’s cheaper and you’re strapped for cash/prep time on this part.

alternative to stir fry:  pasta (~$2), fresh tomatoes (~$2), cheese (~$3).

cheese and fruit if you have extra – look if your store has loyalty cards for free that you can load coupons on for cheese there’s always one it seems like.

ahh thank you!!!

Reblogging because there’s never knowing who’ll need it.

Adding also: the single most nutritious food on earth is potatoes in their peel. Potatoes + some milk and butter = everything you need. They don’t last all that long, but they’re fairly cheap and the quickest cheat to “How do I not fuck my body up.”

(Cooked potatoes’ll last a while in the fridge. Potatoes nearing the end of their useful lives? Cook them to half-done first, figure out what to do with them later.)

Easiest baked potatoes: slice thinly but not paper-like, spread like cards, brush with oil (a silicone baking brush is totes worth the little it costs), spread salt and pepper (a little less than you think you’d like), cover with foil, stick in oven or toaster-oven at 150C for 40min. (If you have the patience, at that point click up to 180C, remove the cover and add 10-20min.) Reheats well, lasts in the fridge longer than it’ll take you to nom.

Dead-Animal-Free Whole Protein: some legumes + some grain. AKA rice and lentils, or rice and beans. (Maybe some fried onion for flavor; onion’s cheap and stays good a descent while. Fried onion makes everything taste better and keeps forever in the freezer, so frying up a bunch and keeping portions is not a half-bad idea.) (If going for the beans option – lentils are cheaper around here but fuck if I know what it’s like in your area – dump some tomato sauce and oil in; canola or soy are best health-wise, and far cheaper than olive; avoid corn.) Oh, what does instant couscous go for in your area? It keeps for fucking ever, it’s usually cheap, and it takes well to any and all added taste.

If you get to choose, black lentils taste the best and need the least soak-time (0-20min), green lentils are best for cooked stuff and red lentils are best in soups. (Red lentils + potatoes + root vegetables of choice + spices; cut into small pieces, cook, run through the blender if you wanna [stick blender’s awesome], freeze in portions.)

When possible, get instant soup mix. Get the good instant soup mix. (The kind that’s not made primarily of sugar, yeast or both. The rest is optional.) Dump 1/2tsp (or more, but start on the low end) into couscous, or chicken, or sprinkle over potatoes being stuck in the oven. Whatever. It’ll make most cooked-food-type things taste better. And again, lasts forever on the shelf.

If  you can have eggs (goodness knows they’re sometimes expensive), dump some tomato sauce in a pan (tomato sauce lasts forever on the shelf), add some oil, onion/beans to cook in it, hot peppers if you wanna, then when it’s nearly ready crack an egg or two in. Hard-boiled eggs last a remarkably while in the fridge, so when eggs reach near the end of their usable lives, just hard-boil and stick in the fridge.

(Have eggs as often as you can, particularly as you have brain-shit going on. You need all the eggs, salt, and 60%-or-more chocolate you can get. Brains are made of cholesterol and salt, so folks with neuro or other brain shit need more of both. Potassium is also aces. You know what has the most potassium? Tomato paste.)

Grated cheese keeps in the freezer for ever. Grated cheese will make a lot of things taste nicer. Preserved lemon juice keeps forever in the fridge. Grated cheese + oil + lemon = instant and awesome pasta sauce that’ll liven up the weeks-old dry pasta in the fridge.

Slices bread also keeps well in the freezer. Try to have half a loaf or a loaf. Dry bread gets cut in cubes, mixed with oil and the aforementioned instant soup, stuck in oven at lowest until properly dry, then kept in an airtight jar to add to soups.

(Over-ripe tomatoes come cheaper. They get turned into soup or sauce, then frozen in portions.)

this is a very good post but why are we glossing over the fact that the alternative to ramen is bees

i have it on pretty good authority that bees are not an affordable eating alternative to ramen.

Seriously, bees are expensive

Trufax.

And speaking as someone who is also living off oatmeal, beans, and brown rice, if you need recipes, I have them!

Today I made 16 bean soup with chicken sausage and it was crazy good and I got 8 servings out of the one batch (froze half). I usually get the cheapest beans I can find, and GOYA bags of beans are usually $1-2. I soaked them overnight, rinsed them, and threw them in a gallon lidded saucepan with 2 boxes of chicken stock (also on sale for $2), two bay leaves, sauteed green pepper, onion, and celery, some garlic from a jar, about two tablespoons of dried herbs de provence, and the “fancy” bit was adding $6 bourbon and apple chicken sausages. You can actually sub veg stock for chicken and skip the sausage and make it vegan and it would still taste great.

Oh and I’ve been doing steel-cut oats. I don’t buy the name brand ones, I just pick whatever store brand/generic I can get for less than $4. They take about ½ an hour to make, but they’re super tasty and I make 2 cups

of dried oats at a time

with dried cranberries and that’s breakfast for 4 days at least.

I’ve also been making black bean soup, red beans and rice, and curried potatoes and chick peas. I got 100 quart and pint take-away containers from Amazon for $20 and they all stack neatly and are perf for one serving of whatever.

Additionally, depending on where you live, whole rotisserie chickens are something like $4-$7 and are easily 4 – 6 servings of protein and on TOP of that, if you stick the carcass in a ziplock bag and then the freezer you have excellent soup makings. Using bones in soup literally squeezes all viable vitamins and minerals out of the suckers. Soup made from lots of bones is great to keep around if you get sick, it’ll feed and sooth you relatively easily and as you get better you can add noodles. ON TOP OF THAT, a quarter to a half cup of soup broth added to a lot of dishes also adds those nutrients PLUS flavor.

Here’s my “How to eat for a week on $30″ post.

don’t forget Good and Cheap: Eat Well on $4 A Day

Yall are clutch for this lmao cuz ima need this for about the first month after I move

Dogs on TV always look so stiff. Like they’re supposed to be just sitting there but you can tell that the dog is like “!!!! Am good boy!!! Am hold position!!! Am look off stage at handler!!! Hi handler!!! Ready your finest treats for the good boy!!!”

My favorite are dogs who are supposed to be fierce but are so clearly playing at it. Just dubbing in growls can’t change that butt-wiggle of “I’m doing THE THING and soon I’ll get PRAISE and play with MY TOY”

Yes. This too.

My fave is the “vicious mauling” where the dogs are having FUN wrestling with the guy who is ROLLING AROUND ON THE FLOOR trying to hide the TOY and THEY’RE GONNA GET IT YES THEY ARE.
