Just saw Guardians of the Galaxy 2 … so many feels. Parts of it were
like, they made this movie just for me. Like, omg. I can’t even
explain. Spoilers in tags.
Congratulations, you made it halfway to Halloween! Halfoween is the day when next Halloween appears on the horizon before us and the last one disappears behind. Bake some cookies tonight and start planning, because from now on, it’s getting closer each day!
i don’t understand why atlantis isn’t more popular of a movie
i mean
amazing and unique art style
spot-on humor
strong, badass female and/or POC characters
awkward but incredibly intelligent lead that isn’t conventionally attractive
COOKIE
history jokes that you won’t catch as a kid
MOTHER
FUCKING
WILHELMINA BERTHA PACKARD
did i mention
BADASS AF FEMALE CHARACTERS
AND MULTIPLE POC CHARACTERS
WHO BREAK STEREOTYPES LEFT AND RIGHT
i just have a lot of feelings about atlantis and i think it needs more love than it gets
I love this fucking movie, and from what I gathered from the commentary (which is amazing and worth a listen) a lot of it has to do with it being a Disney movie with no musical numbers and a piss poor marketing campaign.
the normalization of jealousy as an indicator of love
the idea that a sufficiently intense love is enough to overcome any practical incompatibilities
the idea that you should meet your partner’s every need, and if you don’t, you’re either inadequate or they’re too needy
the idea that a sufficiently intense love should cause you to cease to be attracted to anyone else
the idea that commitment is synonymous with exclusivity
the idea that marriage and children are the only valid teleological justifications for being committed to a relationship
the idea that your insecurities are always your partner’s responsibility to tip-toe around and never your responsibility to work on
the idea that your value to a partner is directly proportional to the amount of time and energy they spend on you, and it is in zero-sum competition with everything else they value in life
the idea that being of value to a partner should always make up a large chunk of how you value yourself
!!!
listen, i am super duper monogamous and i promise you all these things are toxic even in the most 100% enthusiastically exclusive relationship
even ‘commitment == exclusivity’ is toxic because no, you have to actively communicate, maintain, and respect boundaries, you can’t just assume your partner has the same definitions as you
i’m pretty sure this post means ‘toxic monogamy’ just like the way people say ‘toxic masculinity’— monogamy itself isn’t inherently toxic, just like masculinity isn’t bad to be masculine! but people adhering to this really fucked up rigid and ritualized performance of the thing, in the belief that that is the correct and only way to do the thing, damages people in a lot of different ways. monogamy is a great fit for a lot of people—maybe even most people!— but the aforementioned practices are what makes it harmful to participants.
yes. yes its ok to ship fictional characters. because they are not real. because they’re fucking fictional.
the specific circumstances or whatever parts of this ship makes you uncomfy, if any part at all, don’t matter and can be rectified by adding ‘AU’ to it, then altering canon details to your liking. because its not real. and because when you write or draw, those things are up to you. you make the fucking rules, not some asshole on the internet shouting that because they don’t like something, it’s wrong.
holy TITS people, this really isn’t hard.
yes, this includes incest ships. Just because you ship a fake pairing on the internet does not mean you fully endorse Real Actual Incest. so long as you’re tagging appropriately so that people who DONT want to see that can avoid it, write it, draw it, rp it, get your frustrations out. This includes every squick-related thing, everything taboo that you DONT want in real life.
Like, could you imagine if you went around back when the first few star wars movies were released and told every person who initially shipped Luke/Leah and still enjoyed the thought of it that they were no longer allowed to enjoy that content? They were no longer allowed to watch it? Like holy fuck, teachers would have a real issue when assigning Oedipus Rex as required reading because like, surprise…. you may even have to write a paper at some point on this topic.
Read and write your fucked up fic. Draw your most taboo art. Scratch whatever weird curious itch comes up in a safe, fictional way. with things that aren’t real. Just like Sadstuck satisfies the urge to experience Angst in a safe space that doesnt actually affect you the reader/artist, a good bunch of people out there like to create and enjoy content that some others probably would not enjoy at all. Some fucked up shit, because man they dont want real actual people to experience that.
If its the sibling bond that gets you, take that out. Make them not siblings. Change whatever you like because no one can tell you different. You Are God in your fictional little AU. But with literally everything on the internet, when you post it somewhere, as a creator, you’re liable for your disclaimers. TAG. YOUR. SHIT. Just like a movie is rated R for gore, because it fucks people up (me, i am one of those people), you gotta add that easy little ‘incest’ tag there so that people can avoid it if its a thing that needs to be avoided for them.
This is, once again, NOT me saying ‘if you dont have your own real nonconsensual incest, storebought is fine too’. This is me saying Fake Characters and Situations Are Not Real. Real Incest is not the same thing as someone shipping a fictional pairing. Just because someone does ship an incest pairing, doesn’t mean they think irl incest is ok. Like, gunna take a large Faith In Humanity Jump here and say MOST people don’t think irl incest is ok.
But you know whats not ok? Sending people hate mail and threats online because of fictional characters. Like, universally I’m pretty sure people are taught Bullying Is Wrong, but its 2017 and my dash is covered with people not understanding that…
TLDR – Yeah this includes incest, because theyre not real. dont like it, block the tag. Or, don’t make them related in your AU if it aint ur thing. Play Nice On The Internet.
Now don’t yall dare dive in my inbox screaming ‘u support irl noncon incest u monster’ because boy howdy, if you think that your reading comprehension really needs some work.
